DV. Las obras de construcción del parking de La Concha avanzan. Ayer comenzó la retirada de los 135 tamarindos de la plaza de Cervantes que se verán afectados por el derribo del actual estacionamiento. Sólo 60 ejemplares, los más jóvenes, se salvarán de la trituradora.

El Departamento de Parques y Jardines ha elaborado el correspondiente protocolo para intentar aprovechar el mayor número de ejemplares de este lugar. Las obras de construcción del nuevo parking afectarán a 135 tamarindos, en su mayor parte plantas muy maduras que es imposible su recuperación o aprovechamiento una vez arrancadas.

El proceso que se seguirá con los tamarindos más jóvenes es el mismo que ya se ha empleado con los ejemplares que se han arrancado de la calle Hernani y la avenida de la Libertad. Los tamarindo se colocan en unos grandes tiestos y cuidan en el vivero municipal de Lau Haizeta. Si los árboles perviven, algo que no se sabrá hasta dentro de un año, se volverán a plantar en cualquier zona de la ciudad. Los nuevos tamarindos que se colocarán en la futura plaza Cervantes, una vez se construya el parking, serán ejemplares de una única procedencia en busca de la mayor calidad y «homogeneidad».

Los tamarindos de mayor edad, la mayoría de ellos con enfermedades, serán triturados para la elaboración de compost. Además de la zona afectada por el derribo del parking, hay una superficie en Alderdi Eder utilizada por la constructora para depositar el material de obra. Los tamarindos encerrados en este ámbito, unos 35, han sido protegidos para que los movimientos de las máquinas no produzcan daños.

Abedul de Reina Regente

Por otro lado, el abedul de 11 metros de altura que presidía el estanque de Reina Regente y que fue trasplantado para la reforma de esta rotonda será sustituido al final del invierno, con toda probabilidad, por otro ejemplar de la misma o similar especie -Betula pendula-. Los técnicos consideran que este árbol, que tenía sus raíces apelmazadas en un espacio de muy poca altura, no debe ser colocado de nuevo en este espacio y que lo mejor es plantar un nuevo ejemplar.
